HP Officejet 5740

The HP Officejet 5740 is an all – in – one printer and is also the latest offering by HP, which not only focuses on high level functionality but at the same it also makes for an extremely stylish looking printer with wireless capabilities as well. It has been designed especially for audiences who have their very own home office or run a small scale business either as a solo entrepreneur or a very small startup. With its all – in – one feature you can not just print documents but also scan, copy and fax them with the help of a touch screen interface.

  1. Aesthetics and important features:

The HP Officejet 5740 printer boasts of a 68mm touchscreen and the control panel contained within the touch screen contains a comprehensive list of all the buttons that one will need to operate the device in the most efficient manner. This however, does not stand true for the power button as it is not part of the touch screen and is in fact, placed separately as a physical button. Besides, the touch screen is not as sensitive to touch as one would like it to be and therefore, one really needs to ensure that a button on the screen has been touched positively for the machine to work.

The Automatic Document feeder, which is a notable feature of the HP Officejet 5740 can accommodate a maximum of 25 sheets and duplex scan is also not possible on the machine. Besides, the paper tray too has space to stock just about 125 pages for printing purposes. There is also a separate tray placed at the top, which offers 15 photo –sheets to be placed within. This tray can take photo blanks of the dimension 15 x 10 cm. The indent that can be found in the bottom tray is slightly shallow and suited to people who have petite fingers.

  1. The Wireless feature:

The HP Officejet 5740 has a USB and SD card slot, which have been ingeniously placed behind a pivoting circular cover. This adds more pizzazz and style to the aesthetics of the printer and makes it look sleeker and more functional. However, the USB port for the printer is not compatible with PictBridge and therefore, if one wishes to print their photos directly from their digital camera, it may not be possible.

Whilst the USB port has been provided in the printer, the wireless capabilities definitely have an upper hand and the varied possibilities that one can explore with these are definitely praiseworthy. Whether one uses a PC or a Mac, they can still get quick and beautiful prints from their mobile devices using the wireless feature available with the HP Officejet 5740.

High Quality Printers

The ePrint feature available in HP enables one to print remotely. Whilst one can perfectly print using this feature, it is the Wireless Direct that clearly remains a standout. Using this feature, one can directly print from their mobile devices using the iOS or the Android platform. To use this feature, a connection needs to be made to the NFC, which only takes a couple of seconds. The latest smartphones, namely Samsung Galaxy S5 and iPhone 6 possess this feature.

  1. Speed Functionality:

Speed is an impressive feature of the HP Officejet 5740 as it prints at an envious speed for both black and white as well as color photos. Whilst the former prints at 12ppm the latter prints at 8 ppm, which is a commendable feat that this printer manages to achieve. Another standout feature of this all – in – one printer is the fact that it leaves a gap of about 3 – 6 seconds before switching sides, which enables the ink to dry off well before the next side is printed. Therefore, one can be assured of a smooth, smudge – free print for their documents. This is a feature that very few printers can boast of and HP certainly does not disappoint.

  1. Quality of the printed document:

Needless to say, with so many vivid features that deliver on their promise, the quality is bound to be of a superior nature. The pages printed using the HP Officejet 5740 are extremely crisp and the colors look bold and vivid and extremely life – like. The same applies for photographs printed with this machine. They are rich with details and appear crisp and strong. There is only a very minor loss in details when shadows and other such areas are concerned but considering the massive features and the price at which it retails, it can certainly be forgiven as it doesn’t make any much of a difference in the overall quality of the photographs.

Maintenance of this printer is also not troublesome as it comes equipped with two cartridges only, which correspond to color and black. When purchasing this machine, one has the option to either purchase their cartridges as and when they’d like or they can even sign up for a unique feature called the Hp’s Instant Ink Service. In this, the machine also does the job of sending out a notification to the company when it is about to run out of ink and even before it does so, HP delivers the necessary cartridges for efficient use of the machine.

Positives:

Some of the positive features include its ability to print documents without creating a stir or causing any noisy disturbance. It also includes IRIS OCR and the slot for the USB and SD card have never been seen before and are also quite unique.

Negatives:

The duplex print is pretty slow and the design for the paper tray is inefficient for users who do not have petite fingers. Besides, the touch screen could also do a lot better by being a little more sensitive to touch.

Verdict:

Although it does have its own set of pros and cons, it is definitely a machine that is worth investing in especially for home business owners who can save not only a great deal of money in prints but also an extensive amount of time as well.
